My dear Isaac & Amy Post
We are needing
help for our freed people here in
the Dist.
More than four hundred
families, many of them soldiers
wives & children are in distress
for the [necessities?] of life.
[More?] may [leave?] [illegible] [illegible]—
to the [country?]—the "Whitewashing"
[hokey?], has been cruel, & is still
in operation, to some extent, but
[illegible] [illegible] is now [serving?] more
light—in the suffering every day
brought, & waged, when him, in his
city—& will <u> , I think act more
wisely in the future. He wishes
the Black men well.
