Head Quarters National Union Club, No. 1105 Chestnut Street. Philadelphia, Sept. 3d 1866 Monday Evening. --
My very Dear Friends I have a few moments leisure time after the fatigues of the day, and I most pleasantly devote it to writing you a few lines.-- Thank God, the Southern Loyal Convention has met -- and it is composed of as glorious and noble a body of men as were ever congregated together for the Advancement of Human Freedom -- Their keynote is universal suffrage, and although a strong presence is being brought upon them from the outside northern delegates -- a pressure to place themselves simply upon the Republican platform & gain the suffrage ??? -- they will stand firm and practicalize, so far as lies?? The question of the adversaries of Male Dory?? comes up to women? & I am delighted to say that he has the great ??? of the ??? with him -- what the northern delegates will do, is as yet uncertain -- as now of there are bitterly prejudiced and some have declared that they will withdraw if he is admitted.
