Kate of 16 is also smarter much than the two eldest girls and I liked her she is frank and knows how to work. S has taught her girls to sew and to keep with becoming taste. Hiram is a smart industrious boy and I think he will induce his Father to get a small farm. On the whole I shall long enjoy the satisfaction of my jaunt questionable (as Dorea? says) as was the undertaking I have seen many novelties and been raised 700 feet above the Lake Seneca by the aid of locks of which there are 44 in 22 miles the distance to Elmira. I could not realize Sarah eager [?] for me to go with her -- she said "to make Wm feel better" but when I met him at Geneva he was so changed for the better since we parted at Rochester 16 yrs since that I was made (in a day or so) to realize that the made had indeed good in him and as day by day his leisure hours we spent in the cabin in his arm chair -- (I took with me a comfortable home rigged working chair & left it with Sarah)
