Auburn July 22, 1860

Dear Amy [Amy (Kirby) Post)

I wrote thee some weeks since but I am not at all impatient at thy silence because I am aware that thy cares are many and that each returning morn brings with it a very numerous set of claims on thy time. I will however impose on my dear friend another of my long epistles trusting in her forbearance. We are getting along without hired help this summer and to my surprise and pleasure I am able to make myself quite useful. I wash dishes and do a good share toward tending Phebe as we call our last best babe now almost 8 months old. We have parted with Mary Thayer to be a [governess?] in a good German family 12 m from [? at ?] and soon after she left came thy sisters grandson Edward Hick to board here and attend the Nation- al [trial?] of different machines, his is a track for carrying [hay?] inside of a [Bam?]
