Page 2 resignation. It does sometimes seem strange that we should feel so painfully these separations when we reflect that in a very short time we too must follow Isaac + Edmund both see, to be acgr =sect and Edmund bears the loss much better than I expected he has lost one of the tenderest and most watchful mother’s a person ever had Matilda seems desirous to do all in her power to make the comfortable. The queries whether we have seen Roberts letter we had we were in New York soon after its reception Isaac lent it to us to read and we copied it in great haste don’t you think he has placed himself in a very unenviable position unless he does something it will be pub lished in the Standard Oliver wrote him quoting from his letter “many__ rations “ giving him the offer to come with a friend or friends and examine as he would meet him at almost any time or place and in the presence as both their friends examine the letters and if they found any “alterations “ __ he would make such corrections and circulate them as widely as the correspondence had been and would give him 100 copies for him to circulate also informing him of his having the letter and if he heard nothing might feel at liberty to publish it_ a week elapsed and he heard nothing from him and I do not think it is likely he will notice Olivers letter Oliver has been up and made us another visit come up 7 day morning returned 2nd day afternoon was with us nearly all the time we took him to Henrys 2 day morning where we examined the letters of G F White very certainly at Oliver’s request he said he would like we would do it and if we were willing to give a certificate to that effect it would be very grateful to his feelings said he supposed he might go before a magistrate and get them attested but he did not feel free to do it and be sides friends might say why for a man and he will say any thing, that he would greatly prefer having a certificate from friends if there were any willing said he did not wish to urge any one to do it. 4 of us signed up bit as it will be in the Standard I need not say much more. I expect it will be disappr oved by ___all prudent quiet friends I have heard it from friends lately that it is wrong to expose our members we should hide their faults Oliver said he see more and more the danger of these sectarian organization that we were not as free to act as we should be that in many cases we had lost our freedom our individuality too almost and ^without being scarcely aware of it Do you think they will like LMC as editor much better than Oliver as she speaks of the society very plainly too? Father and mother was here when Oliver was here they regret our intimacy with him I do doubt Mother said there was much in his conversation she did not approve Why could thee? I frankly told her yes I could But then, was some few expressions for their sakes I would have preferred different though I did not say so I am sorry to grieve them but there is no other way
