Description
Katherine Ashenburg is the author of The Mourner's Dance: What We Do When People Die. Dr. Ashenburg taught at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, and at Katholieke Universiteit in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. She was a producer for CBC Radio and worked as the Arts and Books Editor for The Globe and Mail. She is often published in the Sunday travel section of The New York Times and writes a column for Toronto Life Magazine. Dr. Ashenburg will explore the ceremonies of modern mourning that, in North America, favors mourning that is private and almost invisible. She will discuss how grieving customs are integrated into daily life and the value of ritual in restoring selves and communities struck by loss.
