17^th of june [sic] 1861

Dear Amy Thine reach’d [sic] me in good time
and I trust the secret is in good hands so far as pub
licity is concerned My precious charge has found a
delightful change I am sure, and as far as
we could she was cheerfully resignd [sic] - her pa
tience held out and her end was calm as
she desired - she seem’d [sic] to suffer with
pain thro [sic] the day and we (H [Huldah Custie] and
myself - were convinced) that an early
hour on the 7^th was best ^for the internmentt[sic]^ so that there was
no time to inform you or others - we had a
minister (Universalist) as SJ May did not
respond to our invitation untill [sic] the 8^th
when he wrote a sufficient excuse it was
perhaps as well as we had so many reasons
for our move, Dorcas is yet very feeble &
our little Mary is a poor little thing I
have come here to stay - left Flo on sun
day [sic] with Huldah & Dorcas - they both
went to Union Spring, D staid [sic] one night
